7 Popular Love Myths …

Love Myths are sometimes silly, sometimes overly romantic, overly optimistic or way too depressing … So, why do we believe in them? Don’t look at me – I’m not a psychologist although I do have a few theories of my own. Mom and dad, Disney and, now, romantic movies– these love myths are pretty much something we’re born with so giving them up completely is like the most unromantic thing to do. Well, regardless how unromantic it sounds, the truth is this – you are the one in charge of your love life! And, if you check out this list of most popular love myths, you’ll understand exactly what I mean:

1. We Only Get Once Chance to Love

Once chance – one love, now excuse me but I really have a hard time believing this. What happens if the person you love doesn’t love you back? But, let’s explore other options as well like, oh… I don’t know… all those people in your past that may have loved you but never had the guts to tell you that simply because you’ve made it very clear the feeling is not mutual. What about those people whose loved ones were taken away from them? Yes, falling in love again isn’t easy but it’s not impossible either so I simply refuse to believe once chance is all you get.

2. Love Is a Spark

Wait, strike that! Love is a big bang, fireworks… you know – The whole, “ I saw him and I immediately knew that’s the man I’m going to marry!” Well, I’d hate to ruin it for you, ladies, but this is just one of many love myths the movie producers would like us to believe in. Sometimes that whole shebang happens with the wrong person and sometimes the real fireworks happen later, when you realize your boyfriend happens to be your Mr. Right as well. Congrats to all of you who actually managed to score both and for all of you who might be questioning your love simply because it didn’t start with the big bang… don’t worry! If there’s something the movies have though us it’s that not all great stories begin the same way!

3. People Who Are in Love Never Fight

Next one on my list of popular love myths is something I like to call “Disney Syndrome” – a common misconception about love and the way people in love should act. “…and they lived happily ever after…” sure sounds great and it is something you can achieve if you always keep in mind it won’t be smooth sailing all the way through. It can’t be, it simply can’t because we are all just human beings which means that somebody will eventually get up on the wrong foot one morning. What are you supposed to do in that situation? Start packing? Scream “I’m breaking up with you”? Of course not! You sit together and talk things out, you find a solution or you compromise and see where that takes you.

4. Jealousy Is a Different Name for Love

But, my yapping about love myths won’t end here, so prepare for the magnificent number 4 – something at least one (if you’re lucky) of your ex boyfriends/ girlfriends has tried to pass as completely normal – Jealousy as… well… let’s call it a different way to say “I love you”. Let me be completely honest here– we are all at least a tiny bit insecure and which means experiencing this feeling is completely natural. Justifying it with love, in my opinion, isn’t as it gives this wonderful emotion a bad reputation. If you love somebody you’d want that person to be happy, not only with you but in general which also involves family, friends and, of course, career or school and, when irrational jealousy starts interfering… well, that’s not love, isn’t it?

5. Love Is Saying “I Love You” Often

Don’t start laughing just yet, as you’d be surprised to know how many people think this is one of the love facts rather than love myths! I can’t deny, I ask my fiancé if he loves me and I tell him I love him often, as well, but there are more than just words to back that up. Actions count waaay more and if you really want to find out if your boyfriend/girlfriend loves you, you should pay attention to those.

6. Love Is Passion, Romance, Attraction

Well… not exactly true which could, of course, explain why people suddenly “grow out of love” once their relationships loses its initial “thrill”. All these things fade out sooner or later leaving more room for different, deeper and longer-lasting emotions such as devotion, respect and caring.

7. It’s meant to happen

“They are a match made in heaven! It’s fate!” – this line is often used to describe happy couples and make all “less happy” others feel like they’ve done something to piss that “fate” off. Well, let me tell you something – it isn’t really fate. It’s being in the right place at the right time and following your gut. And, ladies and gents, that’s just the start – the rest of it is hard work! Every relationship has its ups and downs, every happy couple has been through some hard times, they had to compromise, talk, tune in with each other… that’s just the way things go. You can’t get everything served on a silver platter.
You know… if all these love myths were indeed true, there would be no reason to go out and socialize. We could just sit inside all day, ordering pizzas and random home appliances sold by our local TV Shop companies. Why not? If things are really meant to happen, the faith will eventually send us Mr. Right dressed as the mailman or a pizza delivery boy! LOL! Do you believe in these love myths, ladies and gents, or you prefer taking matters into your own hands?

10 Times You Don’t Need to Apologize …

Stats show that girls give up plenty of apologies- and over half of them are unnecessary, because there are lots of times you don’t need to apologize! Imagine that, you are apologizing for things that you shouldn’t even feel a smidgen bad about! Not every less-than-perfect situation warrants an “I’m sorry” from your beautiful lips. So why are you giving one? There are certain times you shouldn’t feel bad, not even for the other person’s situation. It’s not your fault if they make less money than you or don’t feel the same way you do about something! So how do you know when you should own up or lay low? Keep reading this article and I will tell you 10 times you don’t need to apologize!

1. When You Have Harmless Indulgences

Eating raw cookie dough, taking a bubble bath daily, watching every episode of Glee…..hey, we all have those little harmless indulgences! Without them, life would be such a drag! Show me one person who doesn’t enjoy a few little things out of life, and I’ll show you a boring snob that has no friends. And we know that person isn’t YOU, right? So don’t apologize for being interesting!

2. When You RSVP “No”

You really don’t have to feel bad about not coming up with an excuse to attend your co-worker’s sister-in-law’s nephew’s birthday party. Really? Come on! A simple no is enough, and if they press it, just say you have other plans. Who cares if those plans are to chill in front of the TV in your sweats while you eat ice cream and popcorn for supper? The point is, this is one time when you don’t need to apologize!

3. When You Hate Your New Haircut

Your hairdresser isn’t the one who has to go home with those hideous poufy bangs so why are YOU the one squeaking out an apology? If you don’t like your haircut, it’s one time when you don’t need to apologize. And you may want to check the beauty shop’s policy-many places offer to fix your haircut for free if you hate it!

4. When You Show Up Solo

Nobody likes going stag-but come on! What kind of party would it be if no one there was single? Not a very great one probably! And there’s no shame in going to something more classy alone, such as a wedding or a dinner party. Who says you need a date to have a good time?

5. When You Give Your Honest Opinion

If your friend asks you for your opinion, there’s no need to start out by saying “I’m sorry, but…” Well she asked you didn’t she? So why should you apologize for being honest! And even if she doesn’t ask, what are friends for except to give each other advice and look out for one another’s well being? So don’t apologize for gently pointing out that your friend deserves better!

6. When You Get Paid

When you earn more than your friends do, that’s one of the times you don’t need to apologize. The key word here is EARN. Not that your friends don’t work hard, but if they want better for themselves, they can go after it. You deserve that paycheck, don’t feel bad about it!

7. When You Don’t Text Back in 5 Seconds

Don’t you just hate it when people text you every 10 seconds if you don’t respond to the first text right away? I know I do! It can be so annoying! For really important stuff, there’s this super cool cell phone feature that actually allows people to place a call! So if it’s an emergency or something important, your friends and family can call. Don’t feel as though you should apologize if you don’t text back after 5 minutes!

8. When You Delete Friends on Facebook

We all hate those people who update their status every hour, post annoying profile pictures, and constantly ask you to play Farmville and those other games you don’t have time for. And do you really need to be friends with that boy from kindergarten or your co-worker’s daughter’s boyfriend? Some people have better things to do with their time than weed through a bunch of facebook gossip and chatter, and you are one of those people! So when you delete friends from facebook, it’s one of those times you don’t need to apologize!

9. When You Only Pay for What You Ate

Let’s say you and a friend go shopping. If her purchases cost more than yours, you wouldn’t offer to split the bill, would you? Of course not! And that should be the same concept when you go out to eat with friends. If one of you has the bright idea to put it all on one bill, that’s perfectly fine, but at the end of the meal, you shouldn’t need to apologize when you only want to pay for your salad and diet coke. Especially when your friends all ordered stuffed crab and martinis!

10. When You Don’t Want to Share Your Clothes

You have worked hard making money to buy your clothes, and it has taken you a long time to build a wardrobe full of classy, nice pieces that you wear often. Don’t feel obligated to lend your clothes out every time a friend asks! If anyone is going to spill wine on your new dress, it had better be you! One time you don’t need to apologize is when you are taking care of your property!
Not everything in life has to be about you, and yes, there are times when you should own up to your mistakes and mea culpas. But these 10 times you don’t need to apologize are NOT on the list! These are times when you can walk away guilt free and faultless. So enjoy it, and for goodness sake don’t apologize for it! When do you think you SHOULD apologize, though?

7 Tips If You’re Tempted To Cheat …

I daresay that few of us would ever think that we would be tempted to cheat on a partner. Personally, it’s a subject that I feel so strongly about that I can’t ever imagine being in that position. Still, for many reasons people can find themselves looking for something that they feel is missing in their relationship. So, if you ever feel temptation calling, here are some tips to help you resist …

1. Lot To Lose

Ask yourself if your life with your partner is really that bad. In fact, the chances are that by cheating you would actually lose a lot. The emotional, practical and financial repercussions could be enormous, both for the two of you and for those around you.

2. Grass Is Not Greener

People may cheat because they think that the third party can offer them something that their partner can’t, be it excitement or physical fulfilment. The problem is that they then discover that they don’t feel better. Yes, the grass is not greener on the other side, and it can be a terrible mistake to look to someone else for what you feel is missing.

3. Fix First

Try to sort out what is ‘wrong’ in your relationship first before giving up on it, which is effectively what cheating is. You’ve chosen to be with this person, so you owe it to them to try to make it work. Look at what you can both do to give your relationship a boost.

4. Realistic

Let’s face it, relationships can seem stale after a while. Look at it this way, though – if we stayed in that heady mindset of the early days, we’d probably implode! Relationships have to mature and develop, so don’t go chasing that elusive high with someone else.

5. Back To Square One

So you find someone who feels exciting and brings that sense of exhiliration to your life. But what happens when that feeling wears off? It can’t last forever, so are you then going to look for another illicit affair? If anything, you may end up feeling worse than ever.

6. Dishonest

Now, let’s be blunt. Cheating on someone is a horrible thing to do. Whether they find out or not, it’s just plain wrong, and nobody deserves it. If you’re really that unhappy, either get yourself some counselling or get out of the relationship. It’s no way to treat anyone.

7. Expiry Date?

Finally, feeling tempted by another person may mean that your existing relationship has simply run its course. So ask yourself some hard questions about it. Do you see any future for the two of you? Sometimes it’s not meant to last, and it may be better to move on.
Cheating can really mess up people’s lives, especially the innocent parties, and many of us have been on the receiving end of someone else’s infidelity. Did you find yourself cheating, even though you never thought you would, and how did it turn out – or were you cheated on?
