7 Popular Love Myths …

Love Myths are sometimes silly, sometimes overly romantic, overly optimistic or way too depressing … So, why do we believe in them? Don’t look at me – I’m not a psychologist although I do have a few theories of my own. Mom and dad, Disney and, now, romantic movies– these love myths are pretty much something we’re born with so giving them up completely is like the most unromantic thing to do. Well, regardless how unromantic it sounds, the truth is this – you are the one in charge of your love life! And, if you check out this list of most popular love myths, you’ll understand exactly what I mean:

1. We Only Get Once Chance to Love

Once chance – one love, now excuse me but I really have a hard time believing this. What happens if the person you love doesn’t love you back? But, let’s explore other options as well like, oh… I don’t know… all those people in your past that may have loved you but never had the guts to tell you that simply because you’ve made it very clear the feeling is not mutual. What about those people whose loved ones were taken away from them? Yes, falling in love again isn’t easy but it’s not impossible either so I simply refuse to believe once chance is all you get.

2. Love Is a Spark

Wait, strike that! Love is a big bang, fireworks… you know – The whole, “ I saw him and I immediately knew that’s the man I’m going to marry!” Well, I’d hate to ruin it for you, ladies, but this is just one of many love myths the movie producers would like us to believe in. Sometimes that whole shebang happens with the wrong person and sometimes the real fireworks happen later, when you realize your boyfriend happens to be your Mr. Right as well. Congrats to all of you who actually managed to score both and for all of you who might be questioning your love simply because it didn’t start with the big bang… don’t worry! If there’s something the movies have though us it’s that not all great stories begin the same way!

3. People Who Are in Love Never Fight

Next one on my list of popular love myths is something I like to call “Disney Syndrome” – a common misconception about love and the way people in love should act. “…and they lived happily ever after…” sure sounds great and it is something you can achieve if you always keep in mind it won’t be smooth sailing all the way through. It can’t be, it simply can’t because we are all just human beings which means that somebody will eventually get up on the wrong foot one morning. What are you supposed to do in that situation? Start packing? Scream “I’m breaking up with you”? Of course not! You sit together and talk things out, you find a solution or you compromise and see where that takes you.

4. Jealousy Is a Different Name for Love

But, my yapping about love myths won’t end here, so prepare for the magnificent number 4 – something at least one (if you’re lucky) of your ex boyfriends/ girlfriends has tried to pass as completely normal – Jealousy as… well… let’s call it a different way to say “I love you”. Let me be completely honest here– we are all at least a tiny bit insecure and which means experiencing this feeling is completely natural. Justifying it with love, in my opinion, isn’t as it gives this wonderful emotion a bad reputation. If you love somebody you’d want that person to be happy, not only with you but in general which also involves family, friends and, of course, career or school and, when irrational jealousy starts interfering… well, that’s not love, isn’t it?

5. Love Is Saying “I Love You” Often

Don’t start laughing just yet, as you’d be surprised to know how many people think this is one of the love facts rather than love myths! I can’t deny, I ask my fiancé if he loves me and I tell him I love him often, as well, but there are more than just words to back that up. Actions count waaay more and if you really want to find out if your boyfriend/girlfriend loves you, you should pay attention to those.

6. Love Is Passion, Romance, Attraction

Well… not exactly true which could, of course, explain why people suddenly “grow out of love” once their relationships loses its initial “thrill”. All these things fade out sooner or later leaving more room for different, deeper and longer-lasting emotions such as devotion, respect and caring.

7. It’s meant to happen

“They are a match made in heaven! It’s fate!” – this line is often used to describe happy couples and make all “less happy” others feel like they’ve done something to piss that “fate” off. Well, let me tell you something – it isn’t really fate. It’s being in the right place at the right time and following your gut. And, ladies and gents, that’s just the start – the rest of it is hard work! Every relationship has its ups and downs, every happy couple has been through some hard times, they had to compromise, talk, tune in with each other… that’s just the way things go. You can’t get everything served on a silver platter.
You know… if all these love myths were indeed true, there would be no reason to go out and socialize. We could just sit inside all day, ordering pizzas and random home appliances sold by our local TV Shop companies. Why not? If things are really meant to happen, the faith will eventually send us Mr. Right dressed as the mailman or a pizza delivery boy! LOL! Do you believe in these love myths, ladies and gents, or you prefer taking matters into your own hands?

8 Ways to Stay Safe on Campus …

Stay Safe on Campus! It’s time for back to school, and if you’re headed off to college, then you’ll need to know these tips for staying safe while away. Many of them apply to safety no matter where you live, but some are unique to campus life. Here are 8 ways to stay safe on campus — read them, know them, and live by them!

1. Know your way around

If you’re lost, you’re an easy target to on-campus predators. You’ll be confused, distracted, and easy to assault. Keep a campus map in your bag, and don’t wander around alone. If you need help, refer to a map rather than asking a lone stranger. If you do want to ask for help, ask campus police or a group of other women.

2. Know where to blue phones are

Most college campuses have blue-lit emergency phones that will connect you immediately with campus police. Know where they are, and don’t be afraid to use one if you feel unsafe! That’s what they’re there for… but if you don’t know where to find one, they won’t be any good at all.

3. Be aware of your surroundings

Predators are always on the lookout for girls who look down at the ground when they walk and don’t make eye contact, or are distracted with a cell phone or have headphones in. Being aware of your surroundings is one of the best things you can do to stay safe on campus, or anywhere else for that matter! Don’t listen to headphones while you’re walking or jogging, unless you’re in a well-populated public area. Keep your head up, and make eye contact with the people you pass.

4. Don’t walk around alone at night

This may sound like a no-brainer, but it’s surprising how many women walk around campus alone at night. You’re really not any safer on campus than you would be in your own neighborhood at home, so why would you engage in riskier behavior away at school? Use the classic buddy system, and don’t walk around alone at night!

5. Make sure someone knows where you are

You don’t have to call and check in with mom and dad every night, but you DO have to make sure that one of your friends knows where you and, who you’re with, and when you’ll be back all the time. Lame? No. Important for your staying safe on campus? Yes, absolutely!

6. Don’t invite anyone back to your dorm!

I don’t care how cute that guy from your Trig class is — he’s a stranger, and you should not be inviting him back to your room! Women thought serial killer Ted Bundy was handsome and charming, which is exactly how he was able to lure them to their deaths. Be careful, and stay safe on campus, by keeping strange boy out of the bedroom!

7. Don’t overload your arms with books

If your arms are laden with books, you’ll be an easy target. I know you need those books and binders, but keep them in a backpack or book bag, slung across your shoulders, rather than being distracted and having your arms and hands full.

8. Report anything suspicious

After 18 years in captivity, during which time she could have been saved by multiple parole officers, do you know what finally saved Jaycee Duggard? A sharp-eyed set of campus police women, both following their instincts that something wasn’t quite right with her. Trust your instincts, and report anything suspicious to campus police. Don’t let them brush you off, either — you could save someone else’s life, and maybe even your own!

9. Watch your drink!

More often than not, when a girl is sexually assaulted on campus, it’s by someone she knows and trusts. And how do these guys gain access to a girl at a party to commit the assault? Many times, they’ll slip a drug into a girl’s drink. These drugs are odorless and tasteless, and will render you practically unconscious within minutes. Be careful! Keep a close eye on your drink, and again, make sure you’re with friends you can trust… and have a pact that at no time will any of you leave with anyone else.
So whether you’re headed to college for the first time, or you’re ready to start your last semester, follow these tips to stay safe on campus! And be sure to share them with your friends, too! Which of these tips for campus safety have you followed before? Which will you add to your routine? Or do you have another tip to share?

8 Tips on Dealing with a Lazy Husband …

Do you find yourself doing all the chores around the house on your own while your husband lounges about? If you are wondering what to do with your potato-like husband, then take a look at the following suggestions. Here are 8 tips on dealing with a lazy husband that might help you get him to put forth a little more effort around the house. A few of the tips simply help you deal with him in general.

8. Accept help when he offers, even if you don’t need it

One tip on dealing with a lazy husband involves not looking a gift horse in the mouth. You might have to nag a couple of times to get something done, but if your husband goes out of his way to offer help with anything, be sure to take it. Even if it is something you were about to do and will only take a couple of seconds, take the assistance when it comes around. Afterwards, be sure to let him know how much you appreciate this kind gesture.

7. Come to terms that your husband will never think exactly like you

Even if you both like similar things, you will probably always disagree on the way the bathroom is cleaned. When your husband helps you with chores around the house or with anything you ask him to, don’t get upset if it isn’t completed the same way you would do it yourself. Be content with the way he helps out or don’t ask him to do it in the first place.

6. Don’t act like the foreman of the house

Guys don’t want to be told what to do all the time. Most of them do very well at thinking on their own and they don’t want to feel like they are still living at home with mom and dad. Be a loving wife and nicely ask for assistance with a chore around the house or make him a list of things you cannot do and would greatly appreciate if he would do them when he has free time.

5. Don’t redo something your husband has just done

Being content is another important tip on dealing with a lazy husband. You might not agree with the way your husband has just done the dishes, but don’t start rewashing them because you think they should be washed in a different manner. This sort of follows the same line of thought as being content with his work, but this is taking it one step further by showing how discontent you are about the way things were done.

4. Catch him in a good mood when you ask him to do something

Everyone has their moments and your husband might be more willing to do something for you if you ask him while he’s happy about something else. Try not to blurt out what you need. Instead, try to ease into the question or request for your husband to do something so you don’t force him out of his good mood.

3. Hold on to your patience

Losing your patience won’t make your husband any less lazy. In fact, a lack of patience has often backfired on many women and caused their husbands to be lazier than usual. Take a deep breath and walk away if you think you are about to lose it. Some husbands will catch on to this sound and get the hint that they’ve gone a bit too far. A few might even help you right away once they hear the sudden intake of breath followed by a deep sigh.

2. Show him how appreciative you are when he actually does something

This tip on dealing with a lazy husband involves appreciation. Some husbands need to be showered with phrases and gestures that show them just how appreciative their wives are. Carrying out this method will be mostly up to you and how responsive your husband is to the gratitude shown. Some need a little while others require a lot.

1. Don’t yell to get what you want

Yelling will cause most husbands to block out what is being said nearly immediately. A few husbands will not only ignore what is being said in a raised tone, but they might even walk out of the room without a backwards glance. Speak in regular tones and try to continue to be loving when you ask your husband to help you with something.
You might not agree with each of these 8 tips on dealing with a lazy husband, but the friends who suggested some of these say they truly do work! Feel free to share your own suggestions. What techniques do you use to get the results you want; bribery with your special hot wings or maybe holding the remote control for ransom?
