10 Fun Things to Do at Home …

Fun Things to do at Home without the internet can be hard. While on vacation last month, our internet went out. My first reaction? Freak out! Come on, we all live on the internet and in this day and age, it’s really hard to break away from the habit. There are a ton of fun things to do at home without the internet though! If you find yourself having to face reality – and actual people, you might want to take a list of the top 10 fun things to do at home without the internet!

1. Build a Fort

When I was a kid, my entire room was a blanket fort. I swear, I had blankets tossed everywhere and used to make tunnels all over the place. This is one of the fun things to do at home that you’re never too old to do. So, grab some sheets, toss them over chairs or string them from the ceiling, string some lights, grab some pillows and tuck yourself in a homemade fort!

2. Play Truth or Dare

I swear, this game has been around FOREVER – and I still love it. It’s one of those games that is fun and daring at the same time. You can also play it with anyone: your BFF, your boyfriend, a group of your guy or girl friends. Watch out for those dares though!

3. Boardgames

Old school boardgames are the best! Do you all remember CandyLand, Chutes & Ladders and Guess Who? Come on, those were the golden games and definitely one of the fun things to do at home when you are without internet!

4. Bake

Baking up all sorts of interesting and unique treats for your loved ones can be so much fun! You can try to make something that you’ve never made or even just try to master some of your mom or grandma’s old recipes.

5. Have a Pillow Fight

This is one of the classic fun things to do at home when you don’t have internet – or anytime! The BH and I start pillow fights all the time and while there are never feather flying everywhere, it’s a fun and energetic way to release some energy! So grab a pillow and hit somebody with it – it’ll be fun!

6. Dance

It doesn’t matter what type of dancing you do. Just throw on your favorite music and start shaking everything! Who cares about steps and directions, just let yourself get loose and you’ll have so much fun doing it! My living room dance song is the Lazy Song by Bruno Mars, what’s yours?

7. Have a Carpet Picnic

OMG, these are my favorite! Do you remember when you were a kid and you’d spread out a blanket with your best friend and just bring over some sandwiches, chips and have a picnic on the carpet? Try it as an adult! Seriously, it’s even more fun because you can include some glasses of wine or even some cocktails!

8. Do a Themed Dinner

This can be so much fun! Recently, I had some girlfriends over my place for the first time and I planned a Alice in Wonderland theme. They didn’t have to bring anything or dress up (even though you could do that if you wanted), but everything that I had was Alice in Wonderland themed. I had little bottles labeled ‘Drink Me’ and had teacups and small sandwiches which was before the actual dinner – it was so much fun!

9. Have a Spa Night

My mother and I used to do this all the time when I lived at home. We used to strip off our make up, put up our hair and do facials on one another. After the facials were done, manicures and pedicures were next and then we dyed each others hair. A spa night is the perfect thing for a group of girls or even just to have with your BFF!

10. Watch Movies

Movie watching is one of my favorite past times. Before the internet, what would you do? Well, you’d probably pop in a VHS (because way back then, there were no DVDs) and watch your favorite movie. Do that now!! What’s some of your favorite movies? My go-to movies when the internet is down is by far the Harry Potter movies – I can’t wait until November when the last one comes out!
In this generation we are all so tech savvy, it can be nice to disconnect sometimes. Even if the internet is working, why not try some of these fun things to do at home so that you can spend quality time with your loved ones? Have a carpet picnic or host a themed dinner – trust me, they are fun! What fun things to do at home do you guys do if you have no internet to play with?

7 Great Decorating Ideas for your Children’s Bedroom …

If you are anything like an average parent, you are probably spending a lot of time thinking about the perfect little bedroom for your kid. Regular is so passé, not to mention yawn, boring! For your kids, it has to be nothing less than the best and something out of the ordinary, right? However, if you are still stuck with ideas of cute looking teddy bears piled up high on the headboard these 7 decorating ideas for your children’s bedroom are going to hit you like a breath of fresh air. Let’s get started and put together one hell of a bedroom for your kid!

1. The Outdoor Camp & Hiking Theme

Did your kids have a wonderful time at the last camp they attended? In that case, choose a rustic, outdoorsy theme for their bedroom. Start with pine or log bunk beds with flannel fabrics and plaid patterns, and put up pictures of wild animals, trees, and plants on the wall or choose a forest-themed wallpaper.

2. Cartoon & Movie Characters

Although this sounds a tad bit clichéd, it’s an evergreen theme that almost all children love. And, with the ever growing concept of merchandising, it’s easy to come by lamps, linen, bedding, towels, and memorabilia of your kid’s favorite character from movies or animation.

3. Sports

Yet another theme you can never go wrong with. What kid doesn’t like sports? Take your pick – baseball, football, soccer, basketball – and go wild with all kinds of sporty ideas. Paint the room in the colors of your kids’ favorite team and display trophies, gloves and pictures of famous sportsman on the wall. What a great decorating idea for their bedroom, right?

4. Sunny Green Valley

Kids love a bright and sunny theme, so paint a mural of lush green hills on the wall with the rays of the sun peeping over their tops. Compliment this by using yellow quilts and bedding and green rugs to create the feel of grass. As an extra special addition, paint the ceiling a soft sky blue.

5. The Wild Color Theme

If your kid has a bright and vibrant personality, why should you stick with any one particular shade in the color wheel? Use the entire wheel as an inspiration. Start by throwing in a brightly colored area rug in your kids’ room. And from there on you have the permission to go as wild as you choose with colors. Paint drawer fronts, chair legs, headboard slates and the surface of bookcases with different colors. It will be one dazzling display for sure!

6. The Stars & Moons Theme

Another wonderful decorating idea is the night sky! Stars and moons can be a very soft and soothing décor for your kids’ bedroom. Paint the ceiling a deep midnight blue and stick some glow-in-the-dark stars on it. In addition, you could buy rubber stamps shaped as stars and make a starry border along the wall. Paint the bookshelf and cupboard a pale white and enliven it up by painting shooting stars with silver paint.

7. The Magical Fairy Theme

Okay, this one will probably appeal more to your daughter than your son. But, it’s too cute a decorating idea to miss out on. Against a backdrop of fluffy clouds or a magical jungle, paint fairy shapes with sheer wings and magic wands in lavenders, icy pinks and light blues. Incorporate a lot of sparkly elements in the upholstery, accents, and furniture. Your fairy princess will absolutely love this room!
