7 Ways to Wear Yellow …

Yellow is a fab summer colour: it’s light, it’s bright, it’s fun and it’s also featured in a range of major resort collections set to catapult onto the fashion scene in 2012. Unfortunately, however, it isn’t the easiest of shades to pull off. If you’re keen to stay seasonal and on trend, but you’re anxious you might not get the look quite right, you’re fears are not unfounded. To help you navigate the minefield of do’s and don’ts that accompany this colour, I’ve done some research and put together a series of guidelines that should keep you in the clear: here’s my list of 7 ways to wear yellow.

1. In the Right Shade

Sadly, not all of us can wear the brightest of the bright yellows out there. These vivid tones really only work if you have a darker complexion and hair to match. If you are paler, and especially if your skin tends to be a little pinkish, steer clear of the sunny, lemony yellows and opt for a different variation: go for something closer to ochre or, alternatively, a shade on the pastel spectrum.

2. With a Tan

If you are a little paler in complexion, yellow is bound to drain the colour from your face so that your skin looks even lighter than it is. The only time you will be able to get away with a lot of it in a very bright shade is if you’ve just come back from several weeks in tropical paradise and you’re in total bronzed goddess mode. Vibrant yellows look fantastic against golden skin; capitalise on your tan by breaking out your most vivid frocks.

3. In Prints

As we’ve established, yellow is not easy to wear. If you feel that you can’t get away with too much of it at once, go for a busier yellow print instead of blocks of solid colour. This will help to diffuse the effect of the uber-vibrant shade, and will also help to slim down problem areas that might be exaggerated by the bright shade.

4. At the Beach

Yellow is a fantastic colour to take to the beach: it’s bright, fresh and super-summery. If you’re not keen to go the whole hog and buy a sunny bikini, or if you think your paler skin won’t be able to pull it off, go for a gorgeous, sheer yellow sarong instead. Remember, you don’t need to do vivid lemon to be wearing yellow: you might consider creamier shades of gold, for example, or a bold, rustic mustard.

5. In Natural Fabrics

If you’re keen to tone down the vibrancy of your yellow – if you want to make less of a statement – choose your fabric carefully. Avoid anything shiny or synthetic: instead, go for linens, organic cottons and even silks: natural textiles will help to keep your look classy and elegant.

6. On Your Accessories

Instead of going all out and dressing in yellow from head to toe, consider incorporating it into your look in subtle touches here and there. Wear yellow sandals, for example, or a yellow handbag. If you struggle to make the colour work for you, this is arguably the easiest and most effective way to stay on trend.

7. With Confidence (!)

All bright colours need to worn with a bit of attitude. Don’t play the shrinking violet in your vivacious ensemble: step up the confidence so that it matches the vibrant tone.
Yellow is not the easiest of colours to pull off. If you’re keen to give it a go, but you’re not sure whether you can do it, it’s a good idea to take a moment to consider your strategy. These 7 tips to wear yellow well should get you on the right track to begin with: do you have any suggestions of comments to add?

7 Ideas For Emotional Spring Cleaning …

The arrival of spring often prompts us to spring clean our home or start a new fitness regime. How often do we take a good look at our emotions, though? These are often left to their own devices, but it can be valuable to give them a good spring clean. Here are some ideas for what you can do to freshen up your psychological side.

1. Confidence

Confidence is something that many of us lack. We feel very unsure of ourselves, and that we are not interesting, attractive or clever enough. That’s almost certainly untrue! So even if you don’t feel it, put on an act and fake confidence. If you give the impression that you believe in yourself, then others will believe it as well.

2. Forget The Past

It’s true that our attitudes are often shaped by the experiences of our past. The problem is that we usually allow these to affect us long past the point at which they are relevant. The fact is that we all have bad things happen at some point – that’s part of life. So start to put these experiences back in the past where they belong, and look forward instead.

3. Accept Mistakes

We do tend to criticise ourselves, don’t we? Regrets are pointless though – you can’t change the past, you can only do things differently in the future. It’s time to stop beating ourselves up over past mistakes, and accept that it’s part of being human to get things wrong. That’s actually a pretty good way of learning how to get things right!

4. Life Hurts

It would be very naïve to expect life to be perfect. Perfection doesn’t exist. Things go wrong that are out of our control, relationships break up, or we have health issues. That’s life. If we don’t have low points in our lives, or times that are less interesting, then how would we appreciate the better moments?

5. Forgive Yourself

As I mentioned before, we all make mistakes. Yet somehow it seems harder to forgive ourselves than it does to forgive other people. If you’re still being tough on yourself for things you’ve got wrong, then it’s time for some emotional spring cleaning. Stop thinking that you are weak, a bad person or foolish and let go.

6. Optimism

Optimism is a quality that is often is short supply. Sure, times are tough and it’s hard to foresee them improving in the near future, but being negative and worrying does our emotional health no good. We need to have more faith in ourselves and our abilities, and find positive ways of helping ourselves.

7. Move On

Have you ever known someone who was stuck in the past, and forever dwelling on wrongs that were done to them? Someone who allows themselves to remain in that position will never move on. Stop spending time on regrets and wishing that things had been different, and look forward instead.
We spend a lot of time looking after our physical health, but pay far less attention to the emotional side. Certainly, it’s much more difficult, but it also brings rewards. So what ways can you suggest to do some emotional spring cleaning?

8 Signs That You Are A Bad Friend …

We would all like to believe that we make good friends. But, many a times, we do not live up to the expectations we have set for ourselves and hurt the people that are closest to us. If you have a feeling that perhaps you are not being such a good friend to your friends, read on. Here are 8 signs that you’re a bad friend.

1. Consider yourself superior to them

If you ever feel that you are better than your friend that is a sure sign that you are being a bad friend. Friendship is not about one-upmanship. The other way this can manifest is if you feel ashamed of your friends, who they are and what they do and would like to keep it secret from other people in your life.

2. Go to them only when you need them

If you find that you go to your friends only when you need them or something from them and not otherwise, you may be being a bad friend. If you feel no inclination to be for your friends when they need you or just to hang out with them, then there is truly something wrong in the relationship.

3. Not listen to them

This is one of the biggest signs that you’re a bad friend. If you find that you really don’t care about what your friend has to tell you or that you can’t wait for your friend to finish speaking so that you can say your bit, you are surely being a bad friend.

4. You’re in it for selfish reasons

If you are friends with someone just because of all the things they can do for you or for all the resources that they can put at your disposal, you are being selfish and not a very good friend.

5. Take more than you give

Even if your friend has more resources than you do, there are many ways in which you can share and give to your friends. If you find that you are taking more from them rather than giving, it could mean that you are a bad friend.

6. Lie to them

This is certainly one of the most obvious signs that you’re being a bad friend. If you lie to your friends on a regular basis, irrespective of the reasons, you are being a bad friend.

7. Gossip about them

If you gossip about your friends behind their backs and run them down in front of other people, you are surely being a bad friend.

8. Betray their confidence

If you betray the confidence your friend has in you, there is no doubt that you are being a bad friend.
Look within yourself and see if any of these 8 signs that you’re a bad friend are something you can relate to. Bad friendships leave a very bad taste in the mouth and can be very painful. If you cannot be a true friend, you may as well terminate the relationship.
